We know you may have some concerns about current enteral product shortages. This is happening because some enteral manufacturers (companies that make enteral products) are facing supply chain disruptions. This makes it hard to keep up with the increased demand. We are working hard to manage products in stock daily with our suppliers and manufacturers.
Which products are not available? Do I have other options?
Available products may change from day to day. You can find out if your product is currently offered through Coram® CVS Specialty® Infusion Services (Coram) by calling the Enteral Nutrition Center at 1-877-936-6874. If your product is not available, our dietitians can help to find another formula that may be right for you.
How does Coram monitor shortages?
We manage stock levels of enteral formula and supplies daily. We work closely with our suppliers and manufacturers for updates on product availability each day.
What if my product is out-of-stock?
If your product is backordered, Coram will work with you and your healthcare provider to find an alternative option that may work for you. We also work to get your products when they’re back in stock.
I prefer to stick to my products. Do I have to change products, or can I wait?
If you have sufficient stock of your product, you do not have to switch to another option and can wait to see if your product comes back in stock. If you need the product right away, contact your health care provider or dietitian to help you find another option that is right for you.
I contacted the manufacturer, and they are not reporting a backorder. Why is Coram unable to provide my formula?
Manufacturers are doing their best to keep up with demand. Right now, demand is greater than what can be supplied. This is causing a product shortage. Some manufacturers put hospital and retail supply first. So, Coram may experience a shortage while a hospital or retail store may not.
I purchased my formula on my own over the counter. How can I be reimbursed?
You’ll need to contact your insurance company. Ask them how you can get reimbursed for the product you purchased.
Tips to help avoid a feeding emergency due to formula shortage
- Ask your ordering provider to state “or equivalent” or “substitutions allowed” on the enteral prescription. This increases Coram’s flexibility to provide you with a similar product, often without waiting for a new prescription. We can get you the available product at the time you need to order formula.
- Talk with your health care team about any allergies or limits that keep you from safely using another product. Discuss a backup nutrition plan. For example, over-the-counter products may be an option for you.
- Contact Coram when you have no less than 7 to 10 days of product on hand. That will give us time to work with you and your health care team. Together, we can decide on a plan before you run out of formula.
