Refeeding bile in the home setting with mesenteric ischemia: A case study

Presented at the ASPEN 2021 Nutrition Science & Practice Conference, this poster details the successful intervention including the pumps and supplies which allowed a tube feeding patient to reinfuse bile in the home setting. This complicated regimen would not have been possible without the homecare dietitian carefully collaborating with the acute care team to plan the supplies needed. The RD also provided initial and ongoing education to the caregiver to ensure correct administration of the feeding, drainage, and bile re-feeding regimens. Transition to the home setting resulted in significant cost savings over additional hospital or rehab days.
