Let Your Voice Be Heard —
Medicare Home Infusion Therapy Coverage Act
Did you know that Medicare does not provide coverage for certain home infusion therapies under Medicare Part B? Medicare D, the pharmacy benefit plan, limits coverage to the infusion
drug only and does not cover the clinical services (pharmacy, nursing, and supplies), that are
required. As a result, Medicare patients have no choice but to receive treatment from hospitals,
doctor’s offices and skilled nursing facilities, where they pay less in out-of-pocket expenses
than if their coverage were similar to the commercially insured in the home. This adds unnecessary expense to the healthcare system, reduces patient choice, and inhibits delivery system reform.
Our national representatives need to understand the impact of this lack of coverage. By providing this benefit, they would be supporting cost reductions in the Medicare A program and more importantly, support patients who wish to reside in the setting that is most comfortable for therapy – home.
Please join us in letting your voice be heard and contact your local representatives and senators today to tell your story.
- Ask your congressperson to support the Medicare Home Infusion Therapy Coverage Act (S. 254 and H.R. 574) for coverage of services in the home.
- Let them know the impact of receiving care in your home vs. a hospital or skilled facility.
- Share your concerns about the continued hardship to cover such costs.
- Let them know that home is where you want to receive your care.
